Microsoft Excel 2016 VL - 16.17 - download; Microsoft Word 2016 VL - 16.17. Hi there I am trying to install microsoft office onto my Yosemite 10.10.5 laptop but it says I need a later version laptop. Is there a way around this so I can get it. Jan 3, 2019 — Microsoft Office contains Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. This is a hidden partition on your boot drive introduced with OS X 10.7 Lion, so the technique I'll describe works with OS X 10.7 Lion, 10.8 Mountain Lion, OS X 10.9 Mavericks and OS X 10.10 Yosemite. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and OneNote will install and run on OS X 10.10 Yosemite and later. For the best experience with 10.15 Catalina, be sure to keep your Office apps up-to-date. If the version of Office installed on your Mac is earlier than 16.16, and you are not being offered updates, you can download the latest Office for Mac. Office 2011 is working fine for me too in MAC OS X 10.10.2. As Dempa said, reinstall Office 2011 and make sure that you install all the updates as with the release of Yosemite Microsoft made 2 updates in a row of the software. Improve this answer. I can open the word application and word documents that I created on my MacBook Air.But I cannot open the word document that I downloaded from email. When I tried to open the downloaded word document, it will appears to be running the word application (like the following screenshot) but then it just closes the application itself.

For OS X Yosemite, you can use LibreOffice, or you can use Google Docs in Safari or your web browser of choice.

Any Mac compatible with OS X Yosemite is also compatible with OS X El Capitan. I would recommend updating to OS X El Capitan for better security. If your Mac was introduced before 2012, I would also recommend updating to macOS High Sierra, which is compatible with Microsoft Word. If your Mac was introduced after 2012, you should upgrade to macOS Mojave or macOS Catalina.

macOS Mojave is compatible with Pages, Apple's own word processor, and macOS Catalina provides the best security and features for your Mac.
