2006: Pharrell Williams had proven his ability as a producer ten times when he released his solo debut In My Mind on July 25, 2006, Body of Work.

Pharrell fans had been waiting a long time for this album to be released. Always a perfectionist, it took three years to put the 16-track offering together. With impeccable production by P himself and features from hip-hop stars – Jay Z, Nelly, Slim Thug, Snoop Dogg, and Pusha-T to name a few – In My Mind offered zippy, dance-stimulating sounds paired with fun notes about them little things in life. The album’s biggest singles include “Can I Have It Like That” with Gwen Stefani, “Number One” with Kanye West and “Angel”. And not only was it a timestamp of the evolving hip-hop sound, but the album ushered in a new era in hip-hop fashion by merging brands like A Bathing Ape and Billionaire Boys Club into P’s personal brand inserted.

In My Mind debuted at number 3 on the US Billboard 200 and sold 142,000 copies in its first week. The LP received mixed reviews from critics when it was first released, but was nominated for Best Rap Album at the 2007 Grammys. It would be eight years before the maestro from Virginia Beach gave up his successor with GIR L from 2014. Nonetheless, 12 years later, In My Mind stands as a monument to another change in hip-hop culture.
